In 2015, Pinterest launched a diversity report that pledged its commitment to building a more ethnic and gender diverse company. According to this reportit set the goal of implementing a requirement that at least one person from an underrepresented background and one female candidate is interviewed for every open leadership position. Now, in 2017, Pinterest is continuing to strive for equality in a unique way

According to the 3% Movement, women comprise 46.4 percent of the advertising industry, but only 11 percent of creative director positions. This inspired Pinterest’s creative team to launch their “Right the Ratio” campaign in partnership with Grow, a digital advertising agency. The campaign launched just before Women’s Equality Day earlier this fall.

The Right the Ratio campaign is focused on encouraging and inspiring women creatives to pursue leadership roles in their careers. Pinterest collaborated with several female executives in the advertising industry to gain insight from their experiences for women, and men, wanting to “right the ratio.” Elements of the campaign, located within the Right the Ratio board on Pinterest, include pins regarding leadership skills, tips for the workplace and first-hand advice from various women leaders.

We live a culture that is more gender and ethnically diverse than ever. According to the U.S. Census, 50.8 percent of the U.S. population are women, and the minority population is expected to account for 56 percent by 2060. Embracing diversity is not just a buzzword, it is essential for a business future success. Giving a new perspective on diversity, Tricia Clarke-Stone, co-founder and CEO of Narrative_ said, “Look at diversity as a competitive advantage.”

Capitalize on opportunities for diversity in your business. When has having a competitive advantage ever been a bad thing?
